Once Beaten

They say, “once beaten, twice shy.” They certainly have reason beyond doubt.
You are a different breed of human; One that fights to know my everything. There is however, a plethora worth my entire lifetime of experiences that are better left untold. “Why?” You demand and you are right in every way but then there’s once a time I was beaten for responding to that same “why”.

“It seems unfair” in your opinion and you may be right since you let me in on everything and I’m left baffled forgetting that right after the audience turns to me. That is when my conscience loses its equilibrium my heart cringes because, I’ve been beaten once before. Deep down, I know you deserve to know everything but do you really need to know everything?

We are hurting so much for what you want to know simply because you have asked, and what I’m afraid to neither demystify nor let slip through my lips because I once was beaten. There is a lot I can narrate, though much more I choose to forget as it was quite a weight on my shoulders. Please heed my plea; I have once been beaten.

What you have in your heart for me is what counts, everything you know about me is the best and honest me with all baggage dropped. Do not get me another beating. “Sharing is caring,” Some truth says; though not in my every experience since the reason I cannot push myself past what you already know is ‘sharing.’ Please understand, I have been beaten once before.

It is my selfish choice to keep my past from extinguishing this spark that you and I share. Forgive me if we fail to get to an understanding on this one but trust me when I tell you, my silence about this is for the good of us both.

I Love You.
